| Walking into the Nike cabin was like taking a breath of fresh air. Everything was either gold or platinum. I knew instantly that this was my home. Radiance had told me all about the camp, and, no sooner did I walk past the dragon and the pine tree, I was claimed by my mother, Nike. I was the first ever Nike camper, so I was automatically appointed counselor for the cabin. Taking what few belongings I had, I walked over to a bunk and started to unpack. A picture of me and my best friend, Haley, at school just after our soccer championship. My stuffed rabbit, Choo. And the only picture I have of my mom. It was taken when she and my dad first met. Her radiant features outshone my dad's by a wide stretch. Even a mortal would know that she was not human. I took the picture out of the frame and folded it so you could only see my mom. My dad was lousy. He never took care of me, so I was left to fend for myself. And then he had to go and marry the devil incarnate, and bring in her two kids to the family. Ugh. I wasn't going to think about them anymore. They could rot in the Fields of Punishment for all I cared.
Flopping myself down on the bunk I shouted, "Welcome home!" for no one to hear. | |
