By 6:30, the Hecate Cabin was already filled with magical activity. I watched as some were fooling around, removing noses from each other. I went back to the book. My dad's book, that is. He writes books on aspects of magic. He just published a whole new one called Incantations: Exactly How Do They Work? Of course, being cabin counselor of the Hecate Cabin, Cabin 20, it was my responsibility to know the basic thing about incantations: if you had enough energy behind it, it would come true. It was the easiest with the magic goddesses. However, there needed to be energy for the magic goddess herself to cast them. Where did the energy source come from? Well, a sacrifice, like a noble suicide, etc. Hecate mentioned one once. However, there are many other forms. Like, for example, giving one powers. She wasn't quite sure how that worked, and the book didn't have context on it specifically. Well, Christy was more toward to potion side of this whole godly business. Jared was on the incantation side. She spotted him with his girlfriend, Helen Sparks, supposedly casting fortune incantations. Instead, they were in the middle of making out...
